Welcome to page two of the H. Louis Chandler dedication.
Looie loved music more than anyone I've known. He was the organist for many churches in the area, and played at funerals, weddings and several Court of Honor services.
"I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad…"
Looie had a lot of favorite things! Some of his favorites included his Church, his family, his friends, nature, camping, Scouting, Mic-O-Say, HIS BRAVES, math, computers, electronics, ham radio, fishing, swimming, the color blue, jogging, chess, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, parades, hot sauce, peppers, tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, chocolate cake, peanut butter pie, animals, reading, opera, classical music, piano and a good laugh.
Looie loved to tell a good joke - a groaner or a funny! He loved to visit with neighbors, friends, family and colleagues to engage in a brainteaser or two. Check out LOOIE LAUGHS to play a game or read a joke.

Another FAVORITE Looie used to talk about was walking into the mess hall for dinner and hearing the young Scouts thunder out, "Looie! Looie! Looie!"

THE NIGHT BEFORE CALL NIGHT

'Twas the night before call night and to the skipper's relief,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a weef.
Foxman's Sticks were hung by the cots with care,
In hopes that a Brave pouch soon would be there.
The foxmen were wrapped all snug in their beds
While visions of Runners danced in their heads.
No matter what they did, the great day came,
A time after which they would never be the same.
Chiefs in their bonnets and Medicine Men in their horns
Examined the Called Braves with all of their scorn.
When what to my wandering eyes should appear
But eight gigantic Runners drawing so near.
With a Medicine Man so lively and groovey,
I knew it a moment it must be Louie.
More rapid than eagles his Runners they came
As he whistled and shouted and called them by name.
As dry leaves before a wild tornado fly
When they meet with an obstacle, trample on by.
Around and around the council ring they flew,
A few Runners growled and Louie did, too.
The ringing of Runners I heard going by,
The next thing I knew I had a pain in my side.
As I drew in my head, they turned me around,
Then on came Louie, not making a sound.
He was costumed in ornaments from his head to his knees,
This man isn't fooling, it's plain to see.
A pair of horns were flung on with grace,
He started to make a ferocious face.
His eyes, how they stared, his mouth was cheerful?
He started to laugh while the Called Braves stood fearful.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon led me to know I had everything to dread.
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
He examined the Called Braves and shook me with a jerk.
He sprang from his seat, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down on a thistle.
But I heard him explain as we ran out of sight,
Hard work for all and a tough Ceremony Night!

HILLS OF OSCEOLA

The Hills of Osceola are calling me today,
"Come back along the Scouting Trail" their voices seem to say.
I dream of woodland valleys, and pathways that I knew,
And answer, "Osceola hills, I'm coming back to you."

The trees of Osceola lift up their branches high,
The leafy curtain that they spread is green against the sky.
And when the shades of evening have chased away the light,
The stars above come shining through, God's watchmen of the night.

The friends of Osceola have walked the trail with me,
And 'round the campfire we have met in joyous company.
O! Friends of rain and sunshine, so loyal and so true,
Thank God for hills and trees and stars,- for Country, Home, and You!

SCOUT VESPERS
Softly falls the light of day
While our campfire fades away
Silently each Scout should ask
Have I done my daily task
Have I kept my honor bright
Can I guiltless sleep tonight
Have I done, and have I dared
Everything to be prepared.

Now may the Blessings of our Heavenly Scoutmaster
Rest upon you and all regular Scouts,
and may we follow the trail that leads to Him.

and all boys who want to become Scouts.
